4/26 Update
Norfolk 5, Richmond 3
This game was suspended and finished on Sunday (today), but I will just post it for Saturday. Nothing much going for the Braves here. Brandon Jones had a couple of hits and Thorman had a couple of hits and RBI. Damian Moss pitched only 3 innings (no clue why) but didn't give up any runs but the bullpen crapped it all away.
Mississippi 3, Mobile 7
Mark Jurich led the offense in this one with 3 hits and 2 RBI and Jason Perry hit his 4th HR in 8 games for the M-Braves. Todd Redmond had his first really bad start of the season, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) in 5.1IP. Otherwise there wasn't anything specifically noteworthy in this one.
Salem 4, Myrtle Beach 6
Before you read this you should scroll down to my 4/25 write up on the Pelicans and see where I said that Travis Jones might get moved into the lead-off spot to take the injured Hernandez's spot. Travis Jones led off for the Pelicans and had two hits and 2 RBI.Jon Owings and Yohan Silva both homered in this game to boost the offense and Kyle Cofield only surrendered one run in 6 innings (but walked five) to get another win.
Rome 7, Savannah 2
Jason Heyward continues to deliver on his potential by hitting his 2nd and 3rd homers of the season to go along with 4 RBI. Scott Diamond only gave up 4 hits in 6IP to get the win for Rome. He is sporting a 2.60 ERA on the year and is garnering some attention from this blogger.
4/27 Update
Norfolk 8, Richmond 4
This game was shortened to 7 innings due to the make up game from yesterday. Barbaro Canizares returned to lineup and stroked 3 hits in the losing effort. Also I failed to mention that Diory Hernandez was called up from AA to fill in for Brent Lillibridge. He hit safely in both games of the double-header. Phil Stockman also pitched 2 innings of scoreless ball in his return to AAA.
Mississippi 0, Mobile 8
Sigh.
Myrtle Beach
Off day for the Pelicans. They will be at Lynchburg with Ryne Reynoso pitching against Pirates top prospect Daniel Moskos.
Rome 2, Savannah 4
Heyward had another 2 hits to raise his AVG to .337 on the season. Very nice, Very nice. Cody Johnson went 0-3 with 3 strikeouts. Now I know someone said he works the count (I'll find out for myself next weekend when they come to Augusta) but the man is striking out in almost 40% of his plate appearances. I don't think there has ever been a successful major leaguer that struck out in more than 30%of their PAs in the minors. I'm just saying.
