Arizona Fall League Rosters Announced

In non-slump related news, the rosters for the Arizona Fall League were posted today, and several of the Braves top prospects (what's left of them, anyway) will be playing in the advanced winter league. Arguably the top two prospects in the organization will have a spot on the Peoria Javelinas. Outfielder Brandon Jones and Shortstop Brent Lillibridge will test themselves in the same league that saw Yunel Escobar and Jarrod Saltalamacchia make names for themselves last year. Joining Jones and Lilli will be the following Braves farmhands:

Ryan Basner, RHP
Charlie Morton, RHP
Michael Nix, RHP
Zach Schreiber, RHP
Clint Sammons, C
J.C. Holt, 2B
Brent Lillibridge, SS
Brandon Jones, OF

The inclusion of Jones and Lillibridge almost certainly indicates that, barring injury to a major league player, the Braves will not promote either of them to the majors when the rosters expand in September. Something many people thought might happen due to their success lately in triple-A.

The inclusion of Holt and Sammons signals that the Braves may view them as potential future major league contributors. The additions of Nix and Schreiber also indicate that the organization feels strongly about them. The odd inclusions are those of Ryan Basner and Charlie Morton. Neither are really standout pitching prospects, but then again, there aren't really that many other "healthy" starter-types at the triple-A and double-A levels for the Braves worthy of sending.

The Future is Bright.
Look for Lilli to be active on the basepaths and being driven in by Brandon.

Not familiar with the fall Az league
Could anyone help me out with what its really used for?  Is it for the high minors players getting ready for the majors?  Or is it slumping or injured players getting extra at bats?  Thanks.
