Myers yelling at Harris??

Was Myers yelling at Willie?

Star-divide

It sure looked to me that Myers was yelling at Willie every time he threw a strike.  Then, it looked as if Myers was staring into the Braves dugout after the strikeout.  When they showed the Braves dugout, Chipper was watching the Phillies pretty intently.

Now, maybe I am reading something out of nothing...but did something happen this series that would cause bad blood--besides us being division rivals?  Perhaps something was said after the way Alfonseca acted after getting our guys out??

A difference in class
where alfonseca celebrates like he just won the world series (and he looks like carlton from the fresh prince in slo-mo), brett myers evidently takes things a little too seriously, the phillies show how uncontrolled their players are.

tom gordon exemplifies the professional, yankee-mentality he had from his days with boston and new york.  granted, he only had to work for one out, but he earned it against a tough francoeur, and with a celebratory fist-pump and grimace, he walked back to the dugout.

Alfonseca
Yeah, a little over the top, but...  That shit he throwing looked very, very nasty.  Was it a cutter or whatever?  I don't want to see those pitches anymore.

I agree, very nasty indeed
That ball looked like it was moving two feet. The pitch he is throwing is the same pitch that Tim Hudson throws. It's more of a two seam fastball with sinking action that will move toward a right handed batter from a right handed pitcher. A cutter is a fastball that you hold similar to a curveball, but throw it like a fastball and at the end you cut the ball....you cut it similar to how you finish a throw with a football. This pitch will break away from right handed hitters from a right handed pitcher (Mariano Rivera throws nothing but a cut fastball and guys still can't hit it)

Ah yes, the Phillies
I remember watching a Philly game last year where Howard went 3 for 4. He hit two home runs and a double, he had 7 rbis for the game. His last at bat he struck out and the fans booed him. Go figure.

Thanks for the pitch distinction...
I'm not very good recognizing what is what.  Then, yes, that two-seamer was deadly to the right-handers.  I wasn't even annoyed.  It's just, like, what are you gonna do?  The guy was not hittable that night.  I'm sure there are nights where the same guy can't find the plate.  Anyway, if Diaz looks that bad, you know not many are going to touch it.  I could have done without the insane/moronic 'ole' - the guy celebrating the fact that he's just doing what he's supposed to be doing.

Alfonseca
He definitely had his "A" game the other night, and we had no chance. If we could have even gotten the bat on the ball it would have just been hit straight into the ground....pretty much how things go for other teams when Tim Hudson has his sinker going. As far as Alfonseca celebrating, it was annoying, but we probably would have loved it if the situation were reversed. I mean this was obviously a pivotal game in a big time pennant race and he struck out two straight guys with a runner on third to hold onto the lead....they were definitely big outs. But because it was against us I did find it annoying.

Celebration etiquette
i understand a player of his caliber needs to positively reinforce any little good thing, especially after earier this year giving up the walk-off to a way sub-par andruw jones, but i just think it looks tacky.  if anything, alfonseca earned a hold, a stat not even universally recognized - he didn't close out game 7, he didn't even close out the game.  he got out of the inning without letting any further damage occur.  he might not have either, had it not been for diaz swinging three straight times.

as i complimented gordon's professionalism, it's pretty reflected on the braves as well.  you don't see wickman yelling at the opposition, nor any over-the-top celebration upon earning a save, it's the same routine between him and heap every game; hand-shake, hug, pat on the butt, take the game ball.  even soriano in his interim-closer duties would at most, point the man upstairs, but keep it relatively low-key.

but the bottom line is for the most part correct - it's more or less because he is a phillie, and i just don't like those guys.
