Game Time: 7:05 on

We seem to have gotten over whatever trouble we had with the Nationals early in the season, now on to a slightly more formidable challenge: the Marlins. They've always been a bit of a weak spot for us, haven't they? Come October, it'll be the tenth anniversary of the 1997 NLCS . . . maybe it's about time we made a statement.

Meanwhile, the Mets and Phillies are playing each other this weekend. I don't really know what our hopes should be in that department - if the Phillies sweep the Mets and we take care of the Marlins, we'd be in a near three way tie, but after the Marlins, we've got to deal with the Padres and Dodgers, while the Mets and Phillies both get to play the Rockies and the horrible Astros. We've got a delightfully easy schedule at the start of the second half, though . . . it's quite fun not to be buried in the standings at the break, even if we had to suffer through last year's June again. At least the Mets were somehow infected with a June of their own this year.

Tonight we've got Chuckie going against Josh Johnson, who has had two rough starts after coming off the DL. I've always liked Johnson, mostly because his official bio includes the phrase "enjoys video games," but here's hoping he hasn't worked everything out quite yet.

Don't forget to get your picks in before the game for Nok-A-Homa-Win-A-Lotta (click here to learn how to play and to view the leaderboard); the three categories are (1) Attendance, (2) Pick to Click, and (3) Above and Beyond Pick.

James
I can only watch the game on gamecast, but it seems to me that James is spending a LOT of time in the middle of the plate.  For those who watched/are watching, did you get that impression?  And if so, why did the Marlins keep missing??  Obviously he got away with it and pitched a fine ball game, but it seems like he lives...dangerously.

by Something Profound on Jun 29, 2007 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

Again!?
The Braves need to score more runs! They never score enough! GOSH!

note: 2 years ago, this definitely wouldn't have been enough!

It seems to me . . .
That the Braves have always been a team that score runs in bunches.  It seems like when they win it is either like tonight (12-1 so far) or 1-0, 2-1, etc.  It makes me nervous when they score a lot of runs in one night instead of spreading out their "allotment" of them . . .

by supesk6 on Jun 29, 2007 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Bobby
tries to save them for another night by taking them out in the 5th and replacing them with his bench. Pretty good managing.
