Willie Harris

The Braves have apparently signed IF Willie Harris to a minor-league contract and have invited him to spring training.  He spent last year at AAA Pawtucket (Red Sox) and hit .220 with 8 home runs and 11 stolen bases.  So apparently we'll be looking at Harris as a guy off the pine.

A great Willie Harris story to pass along...

A friend of mine with whom I went to college played minor league ball for the White Sox and ended up getting traded to the Rockies.  He essentially said Colorado has THE most unorganized spring training and farm system he's ever seen or heard about but that's a whole other story.

So he came up with the White Sox and he used to kick it with with guys like Joe Crede and Aaron Rowand.  But I guess when they were all coming up, Willie Harris was there with 'em and whenever Willie would be having his troubles at the plate, they would all go out boozin' (pretty sure they did that all the time, but anyway).  So I guess one time Willie was like 1 for his last 30 and he says, "Man, I got to get me a slumpbuster."

So Willie goes home with like the fattest chick in the place that night just to try to get himself back in the grove.  Heh, heh.

Thus, upon seeing this recent signing by the Braves, I thought of that story.  Maybe when Willie starts having these problems for the Braves, he should just camp out at the MARTA Five Points station and see what he can find coming in and out of Underground Atlanta...
