The Braves have committed to paying their minor league players $400 per week through the end of June, according to David O’Brien of The Athletic.
O’Brien also says, “They are going on a month-to-month basis in many such decisions. They are waiting to find out whether MLB games will be played this season, which will significantly impact revenues.”
It has been an ugly week around Major League Baseball. It sounds like the MLB Players Association and ownership are still far apart on a wide number of topics despite having more than two months to work through things. Many front office employees around the league have been let go by their respective teams, and some, like the Oakland Athletics, have reportedly decided to stop paying their minor leaguers altogether after May 31.
Here’s hoping the Braves will do the right thing and continue paying their employees, whether they are players or not, through the end of the year.
