It appears as though Micah Johnson’s bid for a spot on the Braves’ opening-day roster has officially ended.
Two days after x-rays came back negative on Johnson’s left wrist, results from further tests showed that he fractured his wrist in Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies and will require surgery. The Atlanta Braves released a statement that Johnson will have surgery on the wrist Friday, March 17.

Johnson injured the wrist making a diving grab in Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. AJC’s David O’Brien confirmed that the initial X-rays taken on Tuesday did not reveal any break, but the additional tests taken did.
Johnson’s injury could (and now almost definitely will) eliminate any chance he had at a spot on the bench on the Braves’ opening-day roster.
Even healthy, Johnson wasn’t considered the favorite to win the spot. He was 8-for-36 with a triple and a home run while striking out 11 times and drawing a pair of walks in spring training.
