Dansby Swanson hasn’t played since last Saturday due to lingering back soreness but isn’t concerned about his overall health.
He played all nine innings in last Saturday’s game against the Marlins and said that his back started to tighten up. The Braves have been cautious with him but Swanson told MLB.com’s Mark Bowman that there is nothing to be concerned about.
"I'm not concerned," Swanson said. "I feel good. It's just one of those things where it's March 10 and I'd rather do whatever I need to do now to be healthy for the entire season."
Per Bowman, Swanson has been cleared to participate in fielding drills the past two days but isn’t scheduled to play over the weekend. He could be back in the lineup as soon as next week however.
Swanson’s absence has allowed opportunities for Jace Peterson and Johan Camargo at shortstop. With Swanson penciled in for what will be a long season, it makes sense for them to be extra cautious with him now.
Swanson has appeared in six games this season and has gone 7-for-16 at the plate with a double and a home run.
