The Atlanta Braves have generated some positive buzz within the fan base during the offseason but that sense of optimism doesn’t necessarily extend nationally. One prominent outlet projected Brian Snitker’s team to finish with a 70-92 record earlier this week and, on Friday, word broke that Atlanta was treated with a ton of respect in the first over/under release from a sportsbook perspective.
Atlantis Casino has published their season win totals for all 30 MLB clubs (h/t ESPN Chalk) and the Braves are pegged at 71.5 victories. For a bit of perspective, the PECOTA projection system assigns Atlanta with a 76-win projection and, at least to me, this number seems to be on the low side.
However, the Braves did claim only 68 victories a season ago and not everyone shares the same excitement after the additions of Sean Rodriguez, R.A Dickey, Jaime Garcia and others. It remains to be seen if the 2017 Atlanta Braves can produce at a similar level to the team that provided entertaining baseball down the stretch of last year but at least one bookmaker isn’t quite buying it just yet.
