In what was one of the wilder games of the entire season, the Braves fell to the Diamondbacks 10-9 in 11 innings on Wednesday night.
Things got crazy in the 9th. With Atlanta down four, Adonis Garcia led off the inning with a homer. Back to back walks were followed by a single, double and sacrifice fly to tie the game at 9-9.
The Braves left 14 runners on base and left multiple runners in scoring position in the 8th, 9th and 10th innings before eventually losing in the 11th. Former Braves prospect Brandon Drury hit a game-winning sac fly to left to mercifully end the nearly five-hour game.
With the Diamondbacks already up 3-0 in the 5th inning, Ender Inciarte made his former team pay with a two-run double to cut the deficit to one. Jean Segura and Jake Lamb would both homer in the bottom of the 5th, though, to push the lead to 6-2.
The Braves chopped away in the sixth with an RBI-double from Nick Markakis and an RBI-single by Tyler Flowers to make the score 6-4, but Arizona added on two more runs on a Paul Goldschmidt home run. Lamb also hit a sacrifice fly to make it 9-4.
The Braves made it 9-5 in the 8th before their 9th inning rally.
Teheran was not sharp in his second start back from the DL. He tossed six innings of four-run ball, surrendering 11 hits. He struck out four and walked none.
The Braves and Diamondbacks will finish their four-game series on Thursday night. First pitch will be at 9:40 p.m. ET as Matt Wisler makes his return to the big leagues.
