The Atlanta Braves look to avoid a sweep and to snap a seven-game losing streak in the process when they wrap up a four-game set against the Washington Nationals Sunday at Turner Field.
Joel De La Cruz will make his seventh start for the Braves and is still looking for that elusive first career victory. De La Cruz has been up and down in his first six starts but has been really good at Turner Field. He allowed four hits and one earned run over 5 2⁄3 innings in a no-decision against the Minnesota Twins. He is 0-6 on the season with a 3.72 ERA overall but has allowed just four earned runs over 18 innings in three home starts.
The Nationals will counter with left-hander Gio Gonzalez who enters the game with 8-9 record and a 4.28 ERA. Gonzalez is looking for his 100th career win but has struggled in his career at Turner Field. Gonzalez is just 2-5 with a 4.73 ERA in eight career starts at the Ted.
Gonzalez allowed four hits and two runs over three innings in his last start at Colorado before being lifted following a long rain delay. He has allowed 11 hits and six runs over his last eight innings of work spanning two starts.
First pitch for Sunday’s game is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. and can be seen on FOX Sports South.
