Nick Markakis Deal

With Kansas City appearing that they may move into the seller market, the possibilities for trading Markakis continue to fade. With that in mind, I would turn my attention back to Baltimore as a trade partner. The Orioles have to do something to keep their clubhouse and fan base driving towards October. However, the O's poor farm system will prevent any big time deal from taking place. Bringing Markakis, a huge fan/club favorite back to Baltimore would be a low cost shot in the arm for all parties. A package of Markakis, Lucas Harrell and Eric O'Flaherty for Ubaldo Jimenez and Hyun Soo Kim would benefit both clubs.

For the O's, Markakis could return to a hitters park that has been a great place of success for him. Harrell could add a little depth and attitude to a struggling staff. O'Flaherty could assist with the lefty match-up issues that the O's have had this season. With these players, the O's could address needs on the field and with the fans without further hurting the minor league system.

For the Braves, Jimenez could also get a much needed fresh start in a pitching oriented organization (with little to no preasure to succeed). If he could return to a respectable level, he could be a solid trade option in the summer of 2017. At the very least, Jimenez could provide some "No Rush Insurance" for some of the young pitchers during the coming season. The Braves don't really need Kim, as moving Markakis would open a possible spot for Dustin Peterson to move to the big club for 2017. However, Kim could provide an option for the rest of 2016 and beyond. The Orioles have not seemed to love Kim since he was signed.

This is certainly not a mega deal for either organization. However, each team could create a little stir for the fan base and address some roster concerns with little risk to either club.
