Last night, the Cleveland Indians ran roughshod on our Braves in an 8-3 victory. This has been a running trend for Cleveland as of late, as they’re currently firing on all cylinders with a 10-game winning streak. Now, they’ll be shooting for win #11 in a row with one of the best pitchers in baseball taking the mound for them tonight in the form of Corey Kluber.
Kluber has a 3.59 ERA and 2.86 FIP this season, but aside from a rough start against the Royals on June 15th, the Indians’ ace has been on fire this month. Two of his past three starts have been complete game shutouts, so he’ll definitely be looking to end what’s been a solid month by capping it off with another excellent performance on the mound. For our sake, let’s hope it doesn’t happen and that the Braves can somehow catch Kluber on an off night tonight at Turner Field.
While the Braves won’t be matching aces with Cleveland tonight, they will be sending someone who they hope will be an integral part of their future plans to the mound tonight, and that’s Matt Wisler. Wisler’s been decent over his past couple of starts, but he’ll have a big challenge on his hands trying to keep Cleveland’s offense at bay.
We’ve already got a taste of what Francisco Lindor and company can do, so the hope here is that we won’t see a repeat performance and that the Braves will also be able to scrape something off of Kluber tonight. It’s a tough task, and Cleveland is extremely hot right now, but weird things can happen in baseball, so maybe the Braves can snatch a victory tonight. We’ll see.
Also, to keep in line with the theme of reminiscing about the good ol’ days, here’s video of David Justice hitting the game-winning homer in Game 6 of the 1995 World Series. Good times, good memories.
