What if the Braves trade JT to Boston? -Scout.com article

http://www.scout.com/mlb/braves/story/1681636-what-if-the-braves-did-trade-with-red-sox

Yes, Teheran is now an ace. He's not just a number one pitcher. With the way he's pitched this season, he's becoming an ace pitcher.

The debate of whether or not they should trade him, at least for this exercise, is not in play. We're going to assume the Braves will trade Teheran to the Boston Red Sox for the following package:

Minor league outfielder Andrew Benintendi - currently in Double-A Portland
Minor league second baseman Yoan Moncada - currently in Double-A Portland
Minor league catcher/left fielder Blake Swihart - currently on the Triple-A disabled list
Minor league pitching prospect Michael Kopech - currently with High-A Salem

Forget about whether this is too much or too little to receive in return for Teheran. This is all about what this type of deal might mean for the Braves.

I agree w/ Bill Shanks here. Unless the Braves get Beni + Moncada, then no deal. I'm already wanting to keep JT now, so this would be the ONLY way to change my mind, by getting this type of return.

With Wren and other Boston scouts in town to watch Julio, I wonder if their thoughts have improved on JT or what? I would have to think they'd be pretty improved.

Julio Teheran been consistent this season and his since the the 2nd half of last season. He's only had 2 starts (16 total starts) where he has given up 4 or more runs with 6 being the max.

He's been maintaining:

FB velocity the past few games (92-94)

low BB/9 (0 walks past 2 games; last walk was to Votto in the 1st inning of the Reds game - streak of 23 innings)

higher K/9 rate (8.4 is slightly better than his 2013 season of 8.2)

JT is on pace for career bests in:

Innings

Strikeouts (217 - would be his first time having over 200Ks)

K/9 (8.4 - similar to his 2013 season of 8.2)

BB/9 (2.0 - but on par with his 2013 and 2014 seasons)

H/9 (5.9!! His lowest before this season was 2014 at 7.7) I don't know how sustainable this is, but this is pretty damn amazing

WHIP (0.89 - not sure how sustainable this is, but would crush his 1.08 of 2014)

ERA (2.49 - again, likely not sustainable though, but I would think he could finish under 3.00)

Biggest difference for JT this season?

He's figured out how to get lefties out. Righties and Lefties are hitting under .190! Last season lefties hit .300.

I honestly think that his velocity is back up in the 92-94 range the past few starts vs earlier in the season has also been a factor.

It's gonna have to be Beni + Moncada in order to get JT + Viz. Ultimately, I think the Red Sox balk and there won't be a trade. Which is fine, because I'm pretty happy with JT as a Brave. I feel like it's a win/win either way.
