Gwinnett Braves infielder Elmer Reyes has been charged with kidnapping and raping a woman. The event allegedly occurred after a game over the weekend in Columbus. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has the terrible details:
After some drinks at a bar, Reyes paid for a room for the women at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Columbus, the newspaper reported. Because they had been drinking, Reyes allegedly told the women he did not want them to drive home.
Reyes followed the women to the hotel room, where the friend immediately fell asleep. That is when Reyes allegedly made sexual advances toward the woman, pinned her down on the bed and raped her, according to the newspaper.
The woman called 911 and authorities filed rape and kidnapping charges against Reyes on Saturday.
Per the report, Reyes is scheduled for a June 2 court appearance. The story is still developing and his status with the Gwinnett Braves going forward is unknown at this time.
