The Braves traded Alberto Callaspo, Eric Stults, Ian Thomas and Juan Jamie to the Dodgers on Tuesday in exchange for Juan Uribe and reliever Chris Withrow. Johnson and Veal will replace Stults and Thomas on the Braves' active roster. Both players along with Uribe are expected to be in uniform for Wednesday's series finale in Los Angeles.
Rain limited Johnson's rehab stint in Rome to just one at-bat, but he felt that he got in enough work in at extended spring training while working his way back from injury. Johnson appeared in 16 games with Atlanta before suffering the hand injury while sliding into second base.
This will be Veal's second go-around with the Braves this season. He appeared in three games and allowed three hits and four runs in just 3 1/3 innings before being designated for assignment. He has pitched well at Gwinnett having yet to surrender an earned run in 17 appearances this season.
