Gomes, Miller lead Braves to 5-2 win over Jays
Jonny Gomes drove in four runs while Shelby Miller continued his good start to the season while leading the Atlanta Braves to a 5-2 win on Sunday over the Toronto Blue Jays. Atlanta takes 2 of 3 from Toronto. Atlanta improves to 8-4 on the season with a stop in New York to face the Mets in a three-game series up next.
Miller has repeat success in Toronto, keeps rolling in '15
Shelby Miller allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings on Sunday to improve to 2-0 on the season with a 1.69 ERA. He has won both of his career starts in Toronto and tossed a complete game shutout last season against the Blue Jays while pitching for the Cardinals. Miller talked about Sunday's start with MLB.com's Jamie Ross:
"Last time I threw four-seams and curveballs" said Miller, who improved to 2-0 on the season and has allowed only two earned runs over 15 career innings pitched against the Blue Jays. "I might've been throwing a cutter, but I wasn't throwing it as much as I did tonight. "
Unlike 2014, Braves DHs were strength this series
Atlanta got some significant contributions from the DH position in this weekend's series win over the Blue Jays. Braves' DHs finished 4-for-8 with five walks in the series. As the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien points out, Atlanta DHs struggled mightily last season going 4-for-37.
