Kris Bryant hitless in MLB debut
After all the moaning and complaining by the PA about Bryant being kept in the minors, he finally made his debut on Friday against San Diego and James Shields in front of the home crowd. Those who expected a 5-5, 3-HR game were sorely disappointed as Bryant struck out three times and was 0-4 overall in a 5-4 loss. Bryant's debut wasn't all bad; he made some nice plays on defense that had the crowd cheering, first by starting a double play and then making a diving catch in the fifth. Overall, it wasn't a great debut, but it could've been worse.
MLB to investigate stanozolol tests
When four different pitchers all test positive for the same banned substance within 16 days, that's a very good reason to be suspicious; the Biogenesis scandal arose out of similar circumstances. This investigation commenced after Mets reliever Jennry Mejia tested positive earlier this week, joining Arodys Vizcaino, Ervin Santana, and minor leaguer David Rollins as those guilty of use.
John Axford takes leave of Rockies to take care of his son
The Rockies officially placed John Axford on the family medical emergency list on Sunday so he could look after his two-year-old son Jameson, who was bitten twice on the right foot by a rattlesnake in late March at his family's Arizona home. Axford said after the first surgery the necrotic tissue was "worse than we thought" and that more surgery will be necessary.
Axford has appeared in just one game for the Rockies this year.
Benches clear in KC after Lawrie's slide injures Alcides Escobar
In the seventh inning of the Royals' contest with the A's, Brett Lawrie's slide into second base took out the legs from under Alcides Escobar, who had taken a throw from Mike Moustakas. Lawrie was ruled out, but Escobar stayed on the ground, having suffered what was revealed to be a sprained left knee. Some of the Royals took exception, chirping at Lawrie, believing it was a dirty slide. The benches emptied, but no fisticuffs.
