After adding Jonny Gomes for the purpose of forming a platoon in left field with another outfielder (probably Zolio Almonte), the Braves have continued to add depth to their outfield by claiming former Yankee Eury Perez off of waivers.

The Yankees DFA'd Perez back on January 16th after the Dominican center fielder made 4 appearances as a September acquisition by the Yankees. As a matter of fact, Perez has only made 26 Major League appearances since making his debut for the Washington Nationals back in 2012. In those 26 appearances, Perez has a career slash line of .174/.174/.174. That is about as consistent as you can get when it comes to being an extremely light hitter. With that being said, the Braves probably didn't pick him up for his bat. Instead, they've picked him up so that he can possibly do something like this on the Major League level.

Indeed, Perez isn't a good hitter, but in his limited appearances he's shown that he can field the position pretty well, and when a miracle happens and he does get on base, he's a threat on the basepaths thanks to his speed. The best-case scenario here is that if B.J. Upton continues to be a complete dumpster fire, Perez could possibly come in and share the position with B.J. If not, then we'll probably continue to see Perez do what he's done with his other two organizations: Spend time in the minors while making cameo appearances in the majors.
