I'm relatively new to advanced metrics (though BABIP doesn't seem too advanced in theory and I'm not even sure it is lumped into that category) and wanted some clarification on something.
I was looking at Harper's numbers this year and noticed his BABIP is higher this year than years past but his hitting is down this year. How is this? Is this all to blame on K's? His K% is approaching 30% this year which is much higher but I'm not sure if I'm missing something.
If the answer is what I suspect then I apologize for wasting space here. I just didn't know if I didn't fully understans BABIP. Also, I realize that Harper's career numbers are a relatively small sample.
