Hey look, it's throwback night at Turner Field, tonight! And boy, they went way back. In 1914, the "Miralcle Braves" (led by the awesomely named Rabbit Maranville) completed an amazing turnaround in which they went from worst to first in two months and eventually won the World Series by sweeping the A's.
Of course, the Braves were known as the Boston Braves back then, and the A's were known as the Philadelphia Athletics, and the home run leader that season was a guy named Cactus Gavvy Cravath, who hit a gargantuan number of homers that season -- 19.
Although it isn't the deadball era, we could still possibly see a pitcher's duel break out tonight, as Julio Teheran will be taking on Sonny Gray. Meanwhile, the Braves are trying to keep the good times rolling on offense, after they roughed up Jason Hammel and the rest of the A's pitching staff to the tune of 7 runs.
Phil Gosselin even hit a home run last night, and he's back in the lineup tonight. Fortunately, Andrelton Simmons is back in the lineup (even though he's now missing a couple of teeth), so it appears that he's still healthy. Here's the rest of the lineups, and more data on Sonny Gray:
