This will be used to keep track of the trades as they come in before the deadline.
7/22/2014
Yankees get: Chase Headley, .229/.296/.355 with 7 HR's in 77 games.
Padres get: Yangervis Solarte and Rafael De Paula. Solarte is hitting .254/.337/.381 with 6 HR's in 75 games. De Paula has been pitching at A+ this year. Was the 16th ranked Yankees prospect. He's a high strikeout guy who's 23 years old.
My take: Solarte is a lot cheaper and hitting slightly better then Headley. I know Headley has a better track record and he's also a FA after this season. The Padres get 5 more years of Solarte and 6 of De Paula.
7/23/2014
Tigers get: Joakim Soria. Soria has struck out 42 in 33.1 innings and saved 17 games.
Rangers get: Jake Thompson and Corey Knebel. Thompson is 20 years old and just got moved up to AA. He's looked good so far. Knebel is 22 and has been pitching in the majors. He hasn't done that good but there's plenty of time yet.
My take. Good trade for the Tigers. The Tigers bullpen hasn't been good and it was probably going to cost them in the playoffs. Thompson may end up being good as he was their 2nd ranked prospect but right now its a Tigers win.
7/24/2014
Orioles get: Jimmy Paredes. 25 years old. AAA numbers. .305/.332/.457 with 5 HR's in 65 games.
Royals get: Cash
My take: Paredes is a solid bench option who can basically play all over the field.
Mariners get: Kendrys Morales. 31 years old, signed through this season with about $4M remaining. .234/.259/.325 with 1 HR in 39 games.
Twins get: Stephen Pryor, 25 years old, pitching at AA and AAA this year. overall numbers, 34.2 innings, 5.71 ERA, 30 K's, 21 BB's.
My take: Morales has been able to produce solid power in the past but hasn't been that good this year. Pryor is coming off an injury and has major control problems. It's possible he figures it out and becomes a good pitcher out of the bullpen but it's also possible he never reaches the majors.
Yankees get: Chris Capuano, 35 years old, signed through this season, owed about $1M. 31.2 innings, 29 K's, 15 BB's, 4.55 ERA, 4.06 FIP
Rockies get: Cash
My take: The Yankees are obviously desperate for every pitcher they can get. Capuano had okay stats with the Red Sox before ending up with the Rockies. Capuano came to the Rockies after he was released by Boston. He had been pitching at AAA.
7/26/2014
San Francisco get: Jake Peavy, signed through this season with roughly $6M still owed, Giants are paying $2M of what remains, 1-9, 4.72 ERA, 4.81 FIP, 124 innings, 131 hits, 100 K's, 46 BB's.
Boston gets: Edwin Escobar, 22 years old, BA pre 2014 #56 prospect, AAA numbers, 5.11 ERA, 111 innings, 128 hits, 96 K's, 37 BB's, and Heath Hembree, 25 years old, AAA numbers, 3.89 ERA, 41 games, 39.1 innings, 40 hits, 46 K's, 13 BB's.
My take: The Red Sox aren't competing this year and keeping Peavy around wasn't going to help them. He's a FA after this season and not part of their long term plans. Peavy hasn't been good this year and the fact that they got anything for him is somewhat surprising. I really believe the Giants are thinking they're getting Peavy of a few years ago and not the current version. Escobar and Hembree are a decent return for Boston. Escobar has middle rotation stuff and Hembree should fit into the middle relief role soon.
7/28/2014
Dodgers get: Darwin Barney and Cash. 28 years old, 2nd year arb. eligible after season, roughly $1M owed for remainder of season. .230/.265/.328 with 2 HR's in 72 games.
Cubs get: PTBNL
My take: Barney is a low risk low reward type guy. He's never hit well but is a very good defensive 2B. He'll probably go to AAA and come up if someone gets hurt.
Royals get: Liam Hendricks, 25 years old, pre arb., 1-0, 6.08 ERA, 6.21 FIP, 13.1 innings, 12 hits, 8 K's, 4 BB's, and Erik Kratz, 34 years old, pre arb., Catcher, .198/.226/.346 with 3 HR's in 84 PA's.
Blue Jays get: Danny Valencia, IF, 29 years old, pre arb., .282/.328/.382 with 2 HR's in 119 PA's.
My take: Valencia is a pretty solid player who can play 2B and 3B. Hendricks has struggled over 33 major league starts. Kratz is an aging backup catcher who doesn't hit much and is just okay defensively.
7/30/2014
Cardinals get: Justin Masterson, 28 years old, signed through this season with about $4.5M remaining. 4-6, 5.51 ERA, 4.08 FIP, 98 innings, 106 hits, 93 K's, 56 BB's.
Indians get: James Ramsey, 24 years old, OF, AA numbers, .300/.389/.527 with 13 HR's in 281 PA's.
My take: Masterson has been really good at times in his career but not this year. He's got a lot of money still owed and has injury concerns. Ramsey while not a highly rated prospect has been hitting pretty good this year and has some promise going forward.
Cubs: Felix Doubront, 26 years old, arb. eligible for first time next year, 2-4, 6.07 ERA, 5.29 FIP, 59.1 innings, 69 hits, 43 K's, 26 BB's.
Red Sox get: PTBNL
My take: Doubront has struggled a lot this year and the Cubs get him fro cheap. He's still got 3 years of team control so maybe they can make something out of him.
7/31/2014
Twins get: Tommy Milone, 27 years old, will be first time arb. eligible next year, 6-3, 3.55 ERA, 4.42 FIP, 96.1 innings, 91 hits, 61 K's, 26 BB's.
A's get: Sam Fuld, 32 years old, 2nd year arb. eligible next year, OF, .274/.370/.354 with 1 HR in 195 PA.
My take: Milone is younger and cheaper. Fuld is a okay player but Milone has been pretty good and will help the Twins quite a bit.
A's get: Jon Lester 30 years old, FA after this season, 10-7, 2.52 ERA, 2.62 FIP, 143 innings, 128 hits, 149 K's, 32 BB's, and Jonny Gomes, 33 years old, FA after this season, .234/.329/.354, with 6 HR's in 246 PA's.
Red Sox get: Yoenis Cespedes, 28 years old, signed through next season for $10.5M, .256/.303/.464 with 17 HR's in 432 PA's.
My take: Lester is easily the best player in this deal but the Red Sox get someone signed through next season. Lester makes the A's pitching really tough but I wonder how much it'll hurt their offense.
Cardinals get: John Lackey, 35 years old, option for next season, 11-7, 3.60 ERA, 3.56 FIP, 137.1 innings, 137 hits, 116 K's, 32 BB's and Corey Littrell, 22 years old, A+ numbers, 5-5, 3.60 ERA, 100 innings, 101 hits, 91 K's, 38 BB's.
Red Sox get: Joe Kelly, 26 years old, pre arb., 2-2, 4.37 ERA, 3.93 FIP, 35 innings, 25 K's, 10 BB's, and Allen Craig, 30 years old, signed through 2017 with option for 2018, .237/.291/.346 with 7 HR"s in 398 PA's.
My take: Craig had a really good season last year but hasn't been good this year. Lackey makes the Cardinals a lot better and gives them a rotation that's going to be tough in the post season.
Brewers get: Gerardo Parra, 27 years old, 3rd year arb. eligible next season, .259/.305/.362 with 6 HR's in 440 PA's.
Diamondbacks get: Mitch Haniger, 23 years old, AA OFer, .255/.316/.416 with 10 HR's in 271 PA's and Anthony Banda, 20 years old, A SP, 6-6, 3.66 ERA, 83.2 innings, 84 hits, 83 K's, 38 BB's.
My take: Parra hasn't been as good this year as in the past but he's a solid addition. Haniger and Banda are both decent pickups while neither is a great prospect both could be good additions.
Mariners get: Chris Denorfia, 34 years old, FA after this season, .242/.293/.319 with 1 HR in 268 PA.
Padres get: Abraham Almonte, 25 years old, not arb. eligible until 2017, .198/.248/.292 with 1 HR in 113 PA, and Stephen Kohlscheen, 25 years old, AAA relief pitcher, 2.70 ERA, 6 saves, 56.2 innings, 55 K's, 10 BB's.
My take: Seems like a lot to give up for Denorfia. I think he's a good player but Kohlscheen has a chance to be a late inning guy and Almonte has a decent ceiling.
Orioles get: Andrew Miller, 29 years old, FA after season, 2.34 ERA, 1.69 FIP, 50 games, 42.1 innings, 25 hits, 69 K's, 13 BB's.
Red Sox get: Eduardo Rodriguez, 21 years old, #65 prospect, AA SP, 3-7, 4.79 ERA, 82.2 innings, 90 hits, 69 K's, 29 BB's.
My take: Miller has been really good this year and I know Rodriguez was ranked rather highly going into this season but he hasn't been that impressive at AA this year.
Nationals get: Asdrubal Cabrera, 28 years old, FA after this season, .246/.305/.386 with 9 HR's in 416 PA's.
Indians get: Zach Walters, 24 years old, pre arb., .205/.279/.462 with 3 HR's in 43 AB's.
My take: Cabrera has a decent history but hasn't been that good this year. Walters should fit in as a decent bench player and should start eventually.
Red Sox get: Kelly Johnson, 32 years old, FA after this season, .219/.304/.373 with 6 HR's in 227 PA's.
Yankees get: Stephen Drew, 31 years old, FA after this season, .176/.255/.328 with 4 HR's in 145 PA's.
My take: Each team swaps underperforming players.
Tigers get: David Price, 28 years old, signed through 2015, 11-8, 3.11 ERA, 2.93 FIP, 170.2 innings, 156 hits, 189 K's, 23 BB's.
Rays get: Nick Franklin, 23 years old, pre arb., .128/.192/.170 with 0 HR's in 52 PA's, Drew Smyly, 25 years old, pre arb., 6-9, 3.77 ERA, 4.17 FIP, 100.1 innings, 100 hits, 87 K's, 31 BB's. Willy Adames, 18 years old, A ball SS, .269/.346/.428 with 6 HR's in 400 PA's.
Mariners get: Austin Jackson, 27 years old, 3rd arb, next season, .270/.330/.397 with 4 HR's in 416 PA's.
My take: The Mariners didn't give up much and came away really good in this trade. I really think the Rays could have gotten more and the Tigers get the best pitcher on the market without to much trouble.
Yankees get: Martin Prado, 31 years old, signed through 2016 for 2 years at $22M, .270/.317/.370 with 5 HR's in 436 PA's.
Diamondbacks get: Peter O'Brien, 24 years old, AA C, 1B, and OF, .245/.296/.555 with 23 HR's in 294 PA's.
My take: The Yankees get a good player who's controlled beyond this year, but if O'Brien can bring those numbers to the big leagues then they have a really good power hitting catcher.
Braves get: James Russell, 28 years old, 3rd year arb. eligible next season, 44 games, 33.1 innings, 3.51 ERA, 4.27 FIP, 24 hits, 26 K's, 16 BB's. Emilio Bonifacio, 29 years old, FA after this season, .279/.318/.373 with 2 HR's and 14 SB's in 298 PA's.
Cubs get: Victor Caratini, 20 years old, A ball C and 3B, .279/.352/.406 with 5 HR's in 365 PA's.
My take: Caratini didn't really have a spot in the future with Atlanta and is still a couple years away. Russell helps our bullpen now and Bonifacio gives us some kind of threat off the bench.
Marlins get: Jarred Cosart, 24 years old, not arb. eligible until 2017, 9-7, 4.41 ERA, 4.02 FIP, 116.1 innings, 119 hits, 75 K's, 51 BB's, Enrique Hernandez, 22 years old, not arb. eligible until 2017, .284/.348/.420 with 1 HR in 89 PA's. Austin Wates, 25 years old, AAA OFer, .299/.396/.381 with 2 HR's and 31 SB's in 331 PA's.
Astros get: Colin Moran, 21 years old, #61 prospect, A+ 3B, .294/.342/.393 with 5 HR's in 392 PA's. Jake Marisnick, 23 years old, not arb. eligible until 2017, .167/.216/.167 with 0 HR's in 51 PA's. Francis Martes, 18 years old, RK league, 2-1, 4.97 ERA, 29 innings, 24 hits, 31 K's, 18 BB's.
My take: Wow that's a lot of young players changing places. Cosart is a solid middle rotation guy while Hernandez and Wates are both really close to being starting players in the major leagues. The Astros got some good young players but outside of Marisnick who's struggled as a ML player the guys they got are at least a couple years away.
