Braves News:
Braves Drop One-Run Game to Marlins
Despite scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth, the Braves still dropped their Tuesday match against Miami, 6-5. Miami was paced by the bat of Donovan Solano, who smashed a career-high four hits. Mike Minor gave up six runs on 10 hits through three plus innings, one of his most disappointing outings of the year. His ERA now sits at 5.32 on the season.
Freddi Gonzalez Calls Out Justin Upton
In the bottom of the eighth inning in Monday's Braves/Marlins game, Justin Upton failed to "hustle" to first-base, and ended up being thrown out by Jordany Valdespin, despite the second-baseman failing to make a secure catch, and bobbling the ball. Braves manager Freddi Gonzalez shared a few choice words regarding the play:
"That's not the way we play the game," Gonzalez said, via MLB.com. "I'm going to mention something to him about that"
It seems as if a few times every season around the league, players are singled out for a lack of hustle. With Upton being the latest victim, it will be interesting to see if it has any impact of his effort on the base paths in the coming games.
Braves Alumni Host Golf Tournament for Charity
Former Braves relief pitcher Greg McMichael, a Knoxville, Tennessee native, was able to bring some fellow Braves alumni to his hometown. McMichael was asked to host the event, and was excited to get the chance to do so. Names like Pete Smith, Javy Lopez, and Brian Jordan were all in attendance for the first annual charity golf tournament. With plenty of Braves fans up in eastern Tennessee, the event could gain more popularity as the years go by.
"Even though there’s a lot of Braves fans up here, there’s not a whole lot of interaction with the Braves, outside of watching them on TV," McMichael said. "It’s good for your brand, and I think it’s good for the community to bring some enthusiasm for a charity event like this."
The Braves Trade Deadline Big Board
That's right, it's trade season. The Braves, like many other teams, will be looking to make some deals to either improve themselves for now or the future. Bleacher Report took a shot at ranking the potential deadline targets for Frank Wren and the Braves. From the looks of the list, bullpen arms and middle infield help seem to be at the top of the list.
