The Braves completed their first four game sweep of the Phillies in Philadelphia in 50 years

It was an impressive and important series for the Braves, as they were able to avenge a recent sweep at the hands of the Phillies and leave Philadelphia with sole possession of first place in the NL East.

Evan Gattis and rhomboid muscle injuries

Beyond the Boxscore gets into detail about the Gattis injury. The prescription for Gattis to be back on the field and back to normal seems to be time and rest.

The AJC's Carrol Rogers says farewell

The series in Philadelphia was the last for the AJC's Carrol Rogers. She says farewell to the AJC and sports writing as she is getting married. She will be leaving the daily beat for certain but may still be on for the better part of a month for various other baseball activities.

Carpenter expected back on Wednesday

David Carpenter is expected to join the Braves on Wednesday. Carpenter's ERA doesn't look too great this year but he is still throwing very hard and his peripherals suggest she is getting a bit unlucky so far. Expect him to rebound and be a solid contributor to the bullpen if healthy.

Kershaw extends scoreless streak to 28 innings

Clayton Kershaw, the game's top pitcher, had an absolutely dominant June and will undoubtedly win pitcher of the month. He extended his scoreless streak to 28 innings after throwing seven shutout innings yesterday afternoon.

David Ortiz hits home run number 450

David Ortiz hit his 450th home run against the Yankees last night. It's a number that is even more impressive because of how Ortiz struggled in the early parts of his career. He has had a Hall of Fame type career, and 450 home runs is a very big moment in his career -- nonetheless against the rival Yankees.
