Louisville Bats 5, Gwinnett Braves 4

Gwinnett surrendered four runs in the ninth inning Saturday evening, blowing a 4-1 lead en route to a 5-4 loss. Mark Hamilton led the offensive attack with a couple of doubles, two runs scored, and a pair of RBIs. Jose Constanza, Phil Gosselin, and Tyler Pastornicky all added a couple of hits to the ten-hit attack. Hector Daniel Rodriguez threw six and two-thirds innings, allowing a run on four hits and a walk, fanning six. Jorge Reyes took the loss, surrendering four runs on one hit and four walks in one inning of work.

Mississippi strung together five runs on eleven hits Saturday evening, beating the Generals 5-4. Cedric Hunter, Derrick Mitchell, and Kyle Kubitza all had multi-hit nights, with Derrick Mitchell lacing his first double for Mississippi. Williams Perez pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and a walk, fanning one. John Cornely picked up the victory for the M-Braves, going two innings and allowing no runs, striking out two. Chasen Shreve continued his dominance, picking up the save and striking out a pair in an inning of work. Shreve's 56:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 43 innings of work is worthy of notice.

Lucas Sims had another poor outing Saturday night in the Hillcats' loss, allowing four runs on two walks and six hits in five innings of work, fanning a pair. The bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding, as Navery Moore and Matt Chaffee combined to allow six earned runs in three and a third innings of work. Emerson Landoni was a bright spot in this game, knocking three hits, including his first home run at Lynchburg. Will Skinner had the other extra-base hit of the evening, ripping his 19th double of the season.

Rome couldn't get much going on offense against Hickory. Although the team collected five hits and five walks, they couldn't muster together any runs and were beat 1-0. Ross Wilson had the only extra-base hit of the evening, ripping his first triple. Connor Lien and Trevor Sprowl both reached base twice via a hit and a walk. Steve Janas pitched four decent innings, allowing one run (zero earned) on four hits and three walks, fanning two. Michael Swanner and Brady Feigl were effective in relief, combining for five innings of one-hit, no-run baseball.

Kingsport handed Danville their first loss of the season on Saturday, beating the Braves 9-5. 22nd-rounder Sean Godfrey was the offensive catalyst for the team, smacking three singles, including his third double in as many games. Omar Obregon also added a double to the cause, while Alejandro Piloto and Justin Black each knocked their first triple of the season. Daniel Cordero struggled mightily in four innings, allowing five earned runs and six hits and two walks in four frames, fanning four. Michael Flores poured gasoline on the fire, surrendering three runs and five hits in two innings. Caleb Dirks gave up a run over an inning of work, while Bradley Roney pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

The GCL Braves dropped to 0-2 on Saturday, falling to the GCL Astros 6-3. The offense was very quiet and tallied only five hits throughout the game. Third baseman Franklin Azuaje had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double, in the team's only two-hit performance. Jordany Santana struggled mightily, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and a walk in three and a third, striking out two. Oriel Caicedo and Jorge Zavala had scoreless appearances out of the 'pen.
