After almost two full years of reading articles bashing Uggla I've decided to put in my two cents. Dan is a good Brave who's had a good career. How soon we forget that he has hit at least 20 HRs every year he was a brave save one and has hit at least 30HRs for 5 of his 8 years in the MLB. How about that hitting streak in 2011? The 2 HRs against Philly this year ? How about the fact that his average was better than BJs last year by a good margin with more RBIs and HRs by far, yet he was benched for the likes of Elliot Johnson? ! Really? Yeah, Dan has not been good, we all know this I wont rehash it now. Maybe its the coaching. It seems like offensively no one on the team is progressing like they should except Freeman and he may be stalling out, God forbid. Maybe it just hasn't clicked the right way. Whatever it is, it's not lack of effort on Uggla's part.
The point is , the Braves for some reason are a flawed team for the last two years. Bashing Uggla won't help , won't change anything. Glavine and Maddux won't come back to the rotation, Smoltz won't become the 7th inning guy, the Nats or Marlins won't lose a game in the standings. Hell Bobby Cox won't even come out on the field and throw a conniption fit and get tossed, so please give it a rest. Benching Dan has only helped this team slightly more than trash talking him has. Let him fade away in dignity. I say again, give it a rest. Dan is benched and the team has the same old problems it's had for 2 years. Give Dan a break.
I've loved the braves since I was old enough to know what baseball was. Dan's grand slam against the Phillies this year is a great memory just like when Sid Bream slid into home and I hollered and cried and spilled my cherios all over myself or when Otis Nixon jumped into orbit to save a home run. That's what Braves baseball is to me and while the Braves or Dan Uggla are not what they could be, I still say thanks for the Memories, and Dan, when I think about your career as a Brave I will remember a Monday night in April in Philadelphia when it seemed all was lost and you swung your bat and reminded us all of why we chop. Thanks Dan. Good luck and God bless.
