Pretty much anybody is a better option than Dan Uggla for the Braves, but they didn't expect tis type of output right away from Tommy La Stella. He has hit safely in 13 of his first 16 games with a current .411 batting average and is in the midst of a six-game hit streak. In the Braves 7-3 comeback win last night he was 3-for-3 and tied a career high two RBIs. His double with the bases loaded was the difference maker. He even has drawn more walks than times he has struck out this year. TLS is the truth.
B.J. Upton just hasn't been getting the job done and Christian Bethancourt has been down right raking in AAA, having hit .312 over his past 37 games. Mark Bowman broke the news that the big league club has been considering making the move. At some point in time you can't put any more trust in a player even if you did pay him the largest FA contract in Braves history. Also by moving Gattis to LF he would be able to start more and the team would improve defensively behind the plate big time and Jason Heyward, a Gold Glove candidate, would lock down center.
Mike Minor may not have pitched sharp at all, but the southpaw limited the Angels to only three runs on 11 hits in five innings. The bullpen was phenomenal behind him as they only allowed one runner the rest of the game and struck out eight batters. Craig Kimbrel picked up his 20th save of the year by striking out the only two batters he faced to end the game.
While he has only hit .189 (10-for-53) this month the Fredster may be finding his groove again with back-to-back games with an extra base hit. At the beginning of the season he was one of the best hitters in all of baseball, but the struggle has been real of late. Nonetheless we need to still keep voting for him to get into this years All Star Game that will be played at Target Field. He's currently third in voting for NL first baseman behind Paul Goldschmidt and Adrian Gonzalez.
The Phillies better watch out. The last time JT faced them he threw a three-hit shutout at Citizens Bank Ball Park. It will be a major pitching duel tonight as he will go up against a red hot Cole Hamels who has only given up one earned run in his past 22.2 innings while striking out 26.
Check out the AJC's photo gallery from the Braves primetime Fathers Day game last night. There are many great shots, especially of some of the top web gems of the night.
While it is very unusual for even Craig Kimbrel himself to see him blow a save the flamethrower has been bottling his emotions for his entire career and only in ten appearances throughout his career has he given up more than one run. His mentality is one of the fiercest in the game of baseball and its a joy to watch such an amazing closer.
While Evan Gattis has the best AB/HR mark in the MLB he still sits fourth among voting behind Yadier Molina, Buster Posey, and Jonathan Lucroy. El Oso Blanco better get into the ASG. Julio Teheran (Colombia), Andrelton Simmons (Netherlands), and Ramiro Pena (Mexico) have enjoyed their favorite soccer teams success so far. Best believe they have it on in the clubhouse every day there's a game.
