Gattis, Johnson homer to give Braves first interleague win of the season over the Angels

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Harang and three relievers held off the Angels for a one-run victory.

The Braves finally got into the win column against the AL. After suffering six straight losses, they defeat the Angels by a final score of 4-3.

Much of the excitement, and all of Atlanta's scoring, happened early in the game. Evan Gattis saw a 3-0 fastball from C.J. Wilson with two on and…does what he normally does to a belt-high fastball: he crushed it.

Chris Johnson followed with a homer of his own, giving Aaron Harang a 4-0 lead. Harang had a bit of wildness in the third inning. Hank Conger led off with a double and scored when Harang uncorked two wild pitches.

Harang made the lead stand for six innings and didn't pitch like a guy who had a 7.00 ERA against the Angels. He scattered four hits and walked three, and received some help defensively from Andrelton Simmons.

Things got dicey in the eighth. With one out, Kole Calhoun hit a fly ball in B.J. Upton's direction. B.J. tried to make a basket catch, but it hit him in the chest and dropped for an error. Mike Trout then doubled to set up second and third for Albert Pujols, who singled home both runners. Fortunately, Shae Simmons kept the Angels from scoring any more and Craig Kimbrel closed out the win in the ninth.

Jason Heyward was hit in the right hand with a pitch in the first inning. Good news is it's not broken and only a bruise.
