Game Thread 6/11: Braves At Rockies

Do you remember the lead-in to last night's game, where everybody was talking about how the Braves and the Rockies played a sensible, calm, collected game of good ol' fashioned National League baseball, where the runs were manufactured, bunts were everywhere, and nobody was talking about how wacky Coors Field was? Yeah, last night's game happened and that all went out the window. 23 runs were put on the board last night, and the Braves were responsible for 13 of them. I'm sure Andres Galarraga was somewhere watching this one with a smile as two of his beloved teams attempted to bludgeon each other to death with runs.

The craziness may be tempered tonight though, as the ace of Atlanta's staff, Julio Teheran, will be taking the mound tonight. Teheran pitched 6 shutout innings against Colorado the last time he faced them, and the last time Julio pitched in Colorado, he pitched 7 innings and only gave up 1 run in the nightcap of a doubleheader that included the coldest game ever played not only at Coors Field, but since MLB started tracking game temps in 1991. It was 23 degrees at the start of game 1. Man was not meant to play baseball in 23 degree weather and it couldn't have been much warmer for the night game, but Julio still excelled. It'll be a lot warmer than 23 degrees in Denver tonight, so maybe we should expect another excellent performance from Teheran? Here's hoping.

Also, Eddie Butler was supposed to make his 2nd MLB start for the Rockies tonight, but he ended up going on the DL. So instead, the Rockies have picked another crop from their farm, and this time it will be Tyler Matzek who will be making his Major League debut. When you have 2 pitchers making Major League debuts in the same series, you're either the Astros or in serious trouble for the short-term.

So here are tonight's lineups. No data on Matzek since it's his MLB debut, but here's an informative article on the guy from Purple Row.
