Lincecum shuts down Braves bats, Giants prevail 4-2

Jason O. Watson

Tim Lincecum came out on top in a pitcher's duel with Gavin Floyd.

No matter how bad Tim Lincecum's stats look, somehow the Braves have trouble beating him.

Lincecum struck out 11 Braves as the Giants won their fourth in a row against them despite his season-high four walks, and the win marked his seventh against the Braves in his home ballpark.

Aside from a second-inning homer by Tyler Colvin, Gavin Floyd pitched another great ballgame for Atlanta. Through the first six innings, Floyd scattered four singles and struck out seven.

It was all groundouts and strikeouts for Braves hitters through four innings against Lincecum; no one had a hit until B.J. Upton golfed a curveball for his third home run of the year to tie the score in the fifth.

B.J. was also in the middle of a potential rally in the seventh. He lined a one-out double to left and on the next pitch, raced for third. Upton was initially called safe, but Bruce Bochy asked for a challenge and the call was reversed, spoiling any chance for Atlanta to take the lead.

Then everything fell apart in the bottom half of the inning. After a leadoff single, Brandon Crawford's ground ball to Freddie Freeman hit him in the glove but neither he nor Floyd could corral it. The botched double play led to Tyler Colvin's two-run triple and a Brandon Hicks single put the nail in the coffin.

Freddie Freeman homered in the ninth.
