Early season stats always are fun to look at. You see weird things all the time. Some of them are trends (Jason Heyward's four stolen bases) and others are just aberrations (Aaron Harang's success). To date, the two things I find the most interesting are that Andrelton Simmons is the last qualified player to strike out and Evan Gattis is the last Brave regular to not take a walk.
Neither Simmons nor Gattis have much plate discipline at all, but Simmons obviously has elite hand eye coordination. I have a hard time understanding how pitchers are even throwing Gattis hittable pitches at this moment as he has shown no plate discipline whatsoever this year. The fact that he has three home runs is hard to believe solely due to the fact that pitchers should be throwing him junk out of the zone to make him chase. Last year Gattis had 21 home runs and 21 walks. I wonder if the walks catch up to the homers this season as well.
But alas, not one pitcher has been able to punchout Simmons and not one has issued a walk to Gattis. You tell us, what happens first? Vote in the poll below. In the comment section, put what date you think each will happen.
