Weekend Digest: Braun gets booed; new awards revealed; Adam Jones expresses his opinion

Take a look at some MLB news from the past week.

Ryan Braun gets booed, hits three HRs

Let's face it: Ryan Braun will be on the receiving end of so much business on each road trip, it's ridiculous. Philadelphia was no different, showering him with boo birds in every at-bat, but Braun responded with three home runs and seven RBI.

White Sox sign Tommy Hanson to a minor league deal

Poor ol' Tommy's trying to hang on to what once was considered a promising career. After bombing with Anaheim and failing to make the cut with the Rangers, he'll try his luck on the South Side, where he'll be paid $1 million if he's called up.

MLB reveals new awards for relievers

The new awards will be named after Trevor Hoffman and Mariano Rivera for the best reliever in each league, and will replace the Delivery Man of the Year Award.

Oakland to try closer by committee after Johnson falters

As if Oakland's stadium woes aren't bad enough, Jim Johnson has not perfumed as advertised for the A's since they traded for him over the winter. In five games entering Thursday: 3.1 innings, 9 hits, 7 runs, 6 walks. Luke Gregerson, Sean Doolittle, Ryan Cook and Dan Otero will share ninth-inning duties.

Adam Jones comments on unruly fans

While I agree with him that fans are "idiotic" for running onto to the field, I draw the line at wishing physical harm on them, regardless of whether they deserve it or not. As a result, MLB is investigating the comments and may dish out some sort of discipline.

He's also unimpressed with Masahiro Tanaka

No one ever faulted Jones for having an opinion. Jones downplayed the hype surrounding Tanaka before Wednesday's game with the Yankees…and then struck out twice against him. Even then, he still didn't give the Japanese import any props afterward.

Ryan Zimmerman may be tested at first base

Nats manager Matt Williams declared Zimmerman's shoulder "degenerative", not arthritic as originally reported. If he were to see any extended time at first base, something would have to be done about Adam LaRoche and his $12 million.

Angels lose Josh Hamilton to a thumb injury

Any guesses on how it happened? Sliding head first! And into first base, to boot! Shocker!!

Hamilton is expected to miss at least six weeks.

Matt Moore may require Tommy John surgery

My goodness, there must be something in the water! An MRI revealed a tear of the UCL of Moore's left elbow; Rays manager Joe Maddon doesn't believe it's a full tear. The same can't be said, however, of Pirates prospect Jameson Taillon, who will indeed require surgery.
