For the past week or so (and probably since the moment when he left his last start with an elbow issue), Kris Medlen has been mentally preparing himself for a second Tommy John surgery. The visit to Dr. James Andrews confirmed his and the team's fears, and Medlen will indeed have to undergo another surgery. The procedure will take place tomorrow, and Medlen will be facing an even longer recovery and even longer odds at potentially coming back from what will be his second TJ surgery.
Meanwhile, Brandon Beachy will be seeking a second opinion following his visit to Dr. Andrews earlier today. Beachy will travel to Los Angeles to get further evaluation from Dr. Neal Elattrache.

All in all, even if some of this news was expected, it's still a bit of a bummer, especially when it comes to Medlen having to undergo another Tommy John surgery. It's possible to return from a second TJ surgery, but the chances of that happening will be somewhat slim.
