The Rotation

This is a thread for direct conversation about the rotation. When you look at the structure of this website, you realize that the writer's posts funnel down and off the main page. Only these FanPosts (or FanShots) are really capable of sustaining ongoing conversation. The only conversation that consistently takes advantage of this is "rosterbation." Every now and then I notice some other pretty stable conversations going on that are scattered across the site, and wonder if it would take to make a direct post on the topic. The rotation has become one of these topics right now, and it's going to be a consistently focused topic through May--at least.

After Spring Training, we'll start the season with Teheran, Wood, Hale and Garcia. Each of their performances will be central topics of discussion, hopefully in the context of Teheran becoming the ace he's meant to be, and undoubtedly in the context of Hale and Garcia's competition for the 5th spot once Minor and Santana join in mid-April.

From Mid-April to May we will be watching Minor's health and the performance of our new FA. It will be too early to say, but we will unavoidably be talking about the state of the rotation going forward this season. The 5th starter will be pitching for his spot when Floyd is coming back. If he's dealing, Floyd might have to dominate in AAA before he gets called up. Still monitoring Minor's health and evaluating the overall performance of the rotation, there may be arguments or opportunities for Floyd to replace another member of the staff.

When Floyd starts pitching, his performance will be a hot topic. And by this time in May and June the sample sizes are going to start standing up for the numbers, and narratives will begin to stick--perhaps All Stars will be selected.

So this is an experiment. This post will be here for any and all conversation about our starting rotation for as long as it lasts on the page. Obviously there's a lot to say, and countless articles will continuously introduce new insights and information. If there's interest in a stable place where all that information can aggregate into an ongoing conversation, this is the place.
