With Mike Minor already sidelined for a brief period of time in the starting rotation the Atlanta Braves may be without Kris Medlen for some time now too, all though not sure for how long. In the fourth inning of their spring training game against the Mets he threw a changeup and proceeded to run off the mound straight into the dugout and to the tunnel. Medlen has a right forearm strain and has an MRI set up for today to learn if it could be a significant injury or not. Medlen was pitching well this spring and figured to be the Braves opening day starter against the Brewers.
On top of losing Medlen on Sunday the Braves lost 8-2 to their NL East division rival who loved to chant Larry in Chipper Jones' playing days.B.J. Upton reached base two times in three at-bats in the game with a single and a walk and Ramiro Pena continues to swing the wood well (see his game tying double in the 7th) with two hits in four plate appearances. The utility man leads the Braves along with Jordan Schafer with four doubles and has eight hits in 22 trips to the dish this spring.

Dave O'Brien of the AJC reports he looked rusty despite giving up four unearned runs on one hit and two walks while recording two outs in eighth inning of the loss to the Mets.
Yes, Eric O'Flaherty was a master from the hill out of the bullpen with the Braves and held the second lowest ERA of any bullpen pitcher the past four seasons, as he twice had his ERA in his first four full seasons before posting a 2.50 earned run average in just 19 appearances last year. Luis Avilan figures to be nearly as good and he learned a lot reports O'Brien from his former southpaw bullpen buddy who use to be a part of Oventbrel.
The Braves fourth year skipper said that Medlen was in brighter spirits after receiving the news it was a forearm strain, but often times that injury could lead to other problems as well. Gonzalez feels that the injury could be a little less severe than they first thought. Also Brandon Beachy will look to continue his strong Grapefruit League play today against the Phillies in a 1:05 game at their opponents park.
Even the Mets catcher Travis D'arnaud thought Matt Lipka showed some brilliance in center field with a sliding catch and firing back to home plate to keep the runner at third on bay (see link for video).
FOX Sports South writer Zach Dillard breaks down the Braves spring training so far. He lists it into five categories: 1. Rotation concerns, 2. Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward's hot start, 3. Braves lack of pop this spring, 4. Chris Johnson still hitting line drives, 5. Lack of understanding on new rules of home plate collisions.
Jayson Stark, no he doesn't own Stark enterprise, writes about how Dan Uggla is ready to move on from last year and get back to being one of the top power hitting second baseman in the game.

Careful now I wouldn't want to make Giancarlo Stanton mad.
