Confirmed: Freddie Freeman Agrees to Eight-Year, $135 Million Extension

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Eight more years of hugs! Freddie Freeman signs an eight-year, $135 million dollar extension to avoid arbitration and stay with the Braves through 2021.

CONFIRMED: The Braves have signed Freddie Freeman to an eight-year deal. Mark Bowman reports that the deal is for $135 million. It averages out to $16.875 million a year, making it the largest deal in Braves history.

This is great news for the Braves, as they were set to go to arbitration with Freeman on Feb. 11, with the Braves filing at $4.5 million and Freeman at $5.75. In keeping with Jason Heyward's deal this morning, a multiyear extension will keep with the team's file-and-trial policy.

Earlier news as the story developed:

Jon Morosi is reporting that the Braves are about to announce a multiyear extension with first baseman Freddie Freeman.

UPDATE: Jon Heyman is reporting that the deal is done.

UPDATE: The deal is reportedly in the $100 million range, which probably means six-seven years.

UPDATE: Now Morosi is reporting the deal could be eight years/$125 million. Goodness.

UPDATE: ESPN has confirmed the reports of $125 million over eight years for Freeman.
