Braves News:
John Hart; President of Baseball Operations
It's the moment we've all been waiting for, John Hart has been named general man- excuse me - president of baseball operations. Hart turned down the general manager role awhile back, but seems to be O.K with the president of operations role, as he's signed on for the next three years. Of course that still leaves the official general manager role open, but most believe that the job is John Coppolella's to lose.
Braves' Fielders Looking to Lock Up Some Hardware
You probably already know that Andrelton Simmons and Jason Heyward are pretty damn nice out in the field, and that they'd be in line to potential add some Gold Glove trophies to their collection. Justin Upton however, isn't your prototypical fielding superstar. But sure enough, he was named a finalist for the award, so why not go for the full sweep? Isn't it the least these players deserve?
Could the Hart/Coppolella Moves Hurt the Franchise?
In all honesty, it is nice to see that the seemingly endless general manager search finally come to an end. While both John Hart and John Coppolella are both veterans of the industry and have years of experience under their belts, could more of the same be a negative thing? In essence, could bringing in two guys who were already closely associated with the franchise bring little changes? Could the mistakes that left the Braves playoff-less in 2014 be made again because a fresher face wasn't brought in?
MLB News:
Philadelphia Brings Back Grady Sizemore
At one time in his career, former Cleveland Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore was considered one of the hottest young players in all of baseball. Flash forward to the year if 2014, and his big move is signing a one-year, $2 million contract. Things change, huh? In the past season, Sizemore hit .233 with five home runs and 27 RBI.
Buster Posey Slowly Becoming a Legend
At the age of 27, being a two-time World Series champion, an NL MVP, a two-time All-Star, a Rookie of the Year, a Silver Slugger, and a batting title champion is pretty amazing to say the least. Buster Posey can safely say that he is all of those things. With another World Series win in just his fifth full season, could Posey enter the company of other historic catchers such as Johnny Bench and Yogi Berra? Maybe it's a little early to put tags on him like that, but his manager Bruce Bochy certainly has some high praise for the backstop:
"I think with the sample size, which is pretty big now, with five years and the success that we've had, Buster's really going to be one of the elite catchers of all time in the game," Bochy said as the Giants embarked on their latest quest for the ring this week. "With how good he's been for us, he's been instrumental to our success. He's a guy hitting in the heart of the order, running the staff. We're very fortunate to have him, I know that. He's just a special player."
