Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine Elected into Hall of Fame

Two of the "big three" make the Hall of Fame

Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine were both elected into the Hall of Fame this afternoon. Maddux got in with 97.2% of potential votes while Glavine received 91.9%. Both made it in during the first year of their eligibility. Frank Thomas also joins this class, receiving 83.7% while Craig Biggio narrowly missed with 74.8% (75% is needed, they don't round up?!)

This is a great day for the Atlanta Braves, as these two -- along with John Smoltz -- were beyond integral to the franchise's turn around in the early 1990's and instilling the consistent roster construction around pitching that has been utilized since they became members of the team.

Maddux goes in with a career 3.14 ERA, 355 wins, 3,371 strikeouts, 113.9 Fangraphs WAR, 107 Baseball-Reference WAR, four consecutive Cy Young awards with five other top five finishes, eight All-Star appearances, and 16 gold glove awards.

Glavine enters the Hall with a 3.54 career ERA, 305 wins, 2,607 strikeouts, 64.3 Fangraphs WAR, 81 Baseball-Reference WAR, two Cy Young awards with four other top three finishes, and 10 All-Star appearances.

This is the first time two pitchers from the same team for a full season made the Hall of Fame was in 1946. This is quite an accomplishment for the two aces of the 1990's Atlanta Braves.

Keep in mind that Bobby Cox also made the Hall of Fame earlier this year, so the three will be going in together, which is just awesome. Talking Chop will be sure to have an event up in Cooperstown during the ceremonies, the details of which have not been solidified just yet.

Hats off to Maddux and Glavine!
