From the first few innings, this didn't look like this would end up the final score.
The Braves jumped on top early. With two out in the top of the first, Freddie Freeman got things going with a single. Evan Gattis continued his recent good work with a shot in the left-center gap, and Brian McCann followed with a double of his own into basically the same spot.
The Marlins, however, responded with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. After a strikeout to lead off the inning, Ed Lucas singled, and Christian Yelich walked. Giancarlo Stanton followed with a rifle down the left field line for a double. Logan Morrison would hit a single into center, and the last run of the inning came on a Donovan Solano fielder's choice.
It didn't take long for the Braves to respond. Justin Upton, Freeman, and Gattis led off the top of the third with three singles, and Chris Johnson pulled another flare out of his BABIP hat to make the score 4-3.
From there, the pitching took over. Julio Teheran went 6.2 innings with 6 K and 3 BB as he settled down after the first inning. Things got a little hairy in the seventh after Teheran recorded the first two outs of the inning. A walk and a single would spell the end of the night, and Fredi went to Luis Avilan, who promptly hit Yelich to load the bases. With Stanton headed to the plate, Fredi went in to get the other Luis, and Ayala responded with a three-pitch strikeout of Stanton.
The bad news of the night was Justin Upton leaving the game with a bruised right knee after fouling a ball off of it.
