Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 8/4

Wes Parsons - Tony Farlow/Four Seam Inages

Wes Parsons fired a two-hit complete game shutout for Rome Sunday.

Gwinnett Braves 4, Durham Bulls 1

  • Jordan Schafer CF: 0-3, BB

  • Joe Leonard 3B: 1-3, BB
  • Yohan Flande: 8IP, 3H, ER, BB, 8K

Gwinnett pitching was the story in Sunday’s game. Starter Yohan Flande threw 109 pitches over eight innings, only giving up three hits and a run and striking out eight. This was a follow-up to his dominant nine inning performance last time out. Ryan Butcher came in to finish off the ninth, striking out the side for the 4-1 win. There wasn’t much offense to speak of, but five hits and five walks resulted in four runs. Jordan Schafer, making his second rehab appearance, went 0-3 with a walk in center.

Lynchburg - Off Day

Lexington Legends 0, Rome Braves 1

  • Kyle Wren CF: 1-4, CS (2)
  • Edison Sanchez 1B: 1-2, BB
  • Chase Andelment C: 1-3, HR (3), R

Wes Parsons was the story in this one, firing a two-hit complete game shutout. Parsons only allowed two base runners to reach all day, recording eight strikeouts and a 15:3 groundout-to-flyout ratio. The 20-year-old was signed as an undrafted free agent last July after playing his college ball at Jacksonville State Community College. In 81.1 innings in 2013, he has a 2.99 ERA and a 74:18 strikeout-to-walk ratio, not a bad find by the Braves scouting department. On offense, a Chase Anselment home run was all that was needed – his third with Rome. The lineup as a whole only reached five times.
