Durham Bulls 5, Gwinnett Braves 1

  • Jose Constanza LF: 3-5

  • Phil Gosselin 2B: 2-4
  • Matt Pagnozzi C: 2-4, 2B (9)

Gwinnett couldn’t string together enough hits to get past Durham Wednesday night, losing 5-1. Jose Constanza provided a spark at the top of the lineup, singling three times. The bottom third of the lineup also provided some punch, going 6-for-12 with Joe Leonard scoring the only run of the night. David Hale got roughed up in 5.1 innings, giving up five earned. He walked four while only striking out two. However, look for Hale to be called up once rosters expand and get some work with the big club in September. Yohan Flande threw two scoreless innings in relief.

Kyle Kubitza continued to stay hot, reaching in three of his five plate appearances including his 12th home run of the season, raising his OBP to .379. Carolina teed off on starter Ryan Weber, who game up nine runs on eight hits. His defense didn’t quite help him out, but it was far from his finest showing.
