BABIP Lord BABIPs Battling Braves to Best Indians, 3-2

Scott Cunningham

Chris Johnson's season in a nutshell.

I'm done trying to explain it.

I doubt there's any way that Chris Johnson's 2013 is sustainable, but it's been one heck of a ride. Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Jordan Schafer got things going with a single, and he promptly stole what should have been his second base of the night. After Justin Upton flied out, the Indians chose to intentionally walk Freddie Freeman. Johnson made them play with a single through the left side of the infield that, as they have been all season, just found a hole and brought Schafer home for the walk-off victory.

Neither starting pitcher was dominant, but both Justin Masterson and Paul Maholm pitched fairly well. Maholm did things about as you would expect Maholm to do them. He didn't miss many bats, but he was able to avoid the Indians from stringing them together in any meaningful - Mike Aviles homer was the only offense off Maholm.

Masterson, however, was also very Masterson-like. He struck out 6 in 6 innings, but he also walked four. The Braves were able to string some things together in the second. After Brian McCann struck a single into left-center, Masterson got two outs before Andrelton Simmons blasted a double off the left field wall that he thought he hit out. The big mistake came next as Masterson's trademark wildness betrayed him against Paul Maholm. Walking the pitcher predictably came back to bite him in the you know where as Schafer lined a single into left to score two.

The second Indians run came against Luis Avilan. A couple singles and a walk set the stage for an Aviles sacrifice fly to right.

In other news, the Braves are the first to 80 wins. Woot. Woot.
