Dan Uggla made his second rehab appearance Tuesday night, going 2-4 with a home run in his third trip to the plate. The game itself went into extras, with Gwinnett eventually losing 4-3 in 12. Ernesto Mejia added a multi hit game of his own, collecting his 33rd double of 2013. Joe Leonard and Sean Kazmar also had three and two hits, respectively, with Kazmar stealing his seventh base of the season. On the mound, Sean Gilmartin had a very impressive outing, going six innings only surrendering one run on two hits. His peripherals were also solid with a 7:1 strikeout-to-walk. It was good to see positive results after his previous start that wasn’t actually as bad as it looked. Cody Martin worked out of the pen, his first outing since his last start 11 days ago. He gave up the tying run in the 8th and was pinned with a blown save.

Mississippi Player Stats

Frederick Keys 0, Lynchburg Hillcats 11

  • Kyle Kubitza 3B: 2-5, 2B (27), 2R
  • David Rohm RF: 3-5, 2R
  • Josh Elander LF: 5-5, HR (3), 2B (12), 4R
  • Trenton Moses 1B: 2-4, HR (3), 2R
  • Elmer Reyes SS: 1-3, 2B (29), BB
  • Matt Weaver LF: 2-4, 2B (11)
  • Robert Hinson: 6IP, 4H, ER, BB, 6K
  • Robert Fish: IP, H, ER, BB, 0K

Lynchburg jumped out to an early eight run lead and never looked back, shutting out Frederick 11-0. The bats were obviously the story, headlined by Josh Elander’s 5-5 performance that included a home run and a double. The 22-year-old has been on an absolute tear over his past 10 games, upping his triple-slash with Lynchburg to .271/.353/.374. Kyle Kubitza, David Rohm and Trenton Moses also had multi-hit games, apart of 26 total bases on the night. Starter Ryan Hinson sailed through six innings, allowing only five base runners and striking out six. Navery Moore made a one-inning relief appearance, his first since June 30th. It has been a highly disappointing year from the Vanderbilt draftee, who has battled injuries and poor performance all season long.

Lynchburg Player Stats

  • Matt Chaffee 1.1IP, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 4K

Like Lynchburg, Rome also brought the bats out in full force, churching Savannah 14-1. Every player for Rome reached and all recorded a hit except pinch hitter Ross Heffley, who walked. Kyle Wren reached three of his four times at the plate, legging out his fourth triple of the season. Jose Peraza hit his 18th double of the season and drove in four runs in the two hole. Like Wren, Joey Meneses also recorded his fourth triple on the year. On the hill, Lucas Sims went five innings, giving up one run on four hits. His 6:2 strikeout-to-walk was solid, but he did throw three wild pitches. Zach Jadofsky worked 2.2 innings giving up a hit and a walk, striking out four.

Ryan Gunther did solid work out of the pen, throwing three innings of one-hit ball, striking out four.
