This game was more of a pitcher's duel than yesterday's, but Adam Wainwright outpitched Kris Medlen, throwing his fifth complete game of the 2013 season as the Braves drop their second straight in the series to the Cardinals by a final score of 3-1.
St. Louis jumped out in front first yet again, this time in the second inning on back-to-back doubles by Yadier Molina and Jon Jay to start the frame. Medlen would retire 12 straight hitters following Jay's double. The 1-0 lead would hold until the sixth when Freddie Freeman tied the score with an RBI single. Just prior to Freeman's hit, Justin Upton voiced his displeasure with umpire Paul Nauert's strike zone; while running out a ground ball, he uttered the magic word and got tossed from the game.
The tie wouldn't last past the next half-inning as Matt Holliday homered with two outs to reclaim the lead for the Cardinals. They added one more in the seventh on Wainwright's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.
Wainwright struck out nine and allowed six hits.
