Looking towards next year-A possible, not highly mentioned player the Braves should target

So, as we all know our pitching staff will be quite full next season. The only exception really depends on who will receive the fifth starting spot. With Minor, Beachy, Teheran, and Medlen all due to come back next year, we really only have one spot to be filled. As the season progresses, that spot looks more likely to go to the young southpaw, Alex Wood. Some might say the Braves could bring back Huddy, but I highly doubt that as being the most realistic scenario. The Braves have really liked what they have seen from Wood, and seeing him start next year in the minors would be pretty shocking.

So, with all of this being said, the Braves are going to need a pitcher who can fill in if any of our starting five pitchers go down with an injury. Unless any of you guys are comfortable with handing several starts over to the likes of a Gilmartin, Martin, Hale, Poveda, Graham, or Flande??

Yeah, I really do not feel comfortable with that either...So, I propose we go after the following player.....

Yes, I am suggesting the Braves go after and sign Phil Hughes. In a very SSS, he has proven to be a pretty effective relief pitcher, and when moving into a bullpen role this would help Hughes sharpen his pitches and add a tick of velocity. Also, Hughes is a flyball pitcher, which playing in Yankee stadium does him no favors. He is a very talented, fairly young pitcher who could really use a change of scenery, and I think Atlanta would provide him with the chance to resurrect his career.

Not only would this provide the Braves with another solid arm out of the pen, but Hughes could definitely serve as an emergency option in case one of our starters goes down to an injury. I truly think Hughes would be able to fill in admirably in a few spot starts throughout the season...

I'm pretty sure we can get Hughes for relatively cheap, and even if the Braves do have to spend say 3-6 million on Hughes the risk would definitely be worth it. Like I said, he could be a great option out of the pen, and would provide the much needed insurance when someone goes down. The last thing any playoff team needs is to be caught with their pants down, late in the year, due to an injury and a lack of depth

What do you guys think about possibly bringing Phil Hughes to Atlanta??
