Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 7/31

USA TODAY Sports

BJ Upton went 0-3 in his first rehab start for Gwinnett Wednesday night.

Charlotte Knights 2, Gwinnett Braves 1

  • BJ Upton CF: 0-3
  • Philip Gosselin 2B: 1-4
  • Ernesto Mejia 1B: 1-4, 2B (24)

Gwinnett and Charlotte were tied throughout until the Knights took the lead in the 9th off Mark Lamm. It was BJ Upton’s first rehab game – he went 0-3 with a groundout, fly out and a strikeout. As Upton stated, he won’t try to rush back, a smart decision considering the Braves continue to roll. Cody Martin had a phenomenal 120 pitch outing, going eight innings surrendering one run. Martin was TC’s 7th ranked prospect mid-season and has continued to show why he jumped up many rankings, posting a 119:48 strikeout-to-walk in 113.2 innings across AA and AAA. His great start was spoiled in the 9th, but the offense wasn't of much help either. Gwinnett only collected four hits on the night, which included doubles from Ernesto Mejia and Brandon Boggs.
