Durham Bulls 1, Gwinnett Braves 0
There was not much excitement to speak of in Sunday's game. David Hale, who threw 108 pitches, surrendered the only run of the game after working into the 8th; he gave up six hits and four walks with a strikeout. The offense was held in check, recording four hits and four walks. Joe Beimel finished off the game striking out two, dropping his ERA to 4.73. Joe Leonard recorded the only XBH of the game, his 12th double of the season. Jose Constanza reached twice and added two steals (15,16) on the bases.
Mississippi Braves 5, Birmingham 4
Mississippi scored three runs in the 9th to take the lead over Birmingham and then was able to hold on to that lead to get the win Sunday. Edward Salcedo reached base twice on a double and walk as the DH. Robby Hefflinger hit his second HR since his promotion to Double-A and also drew a walk. He also added an outfield assist out in left. Gary Moran got the start and went four innings giving up one run. The bullpen gave up three runs, only one earned, while walking four and striking out three.
Lynchburg - Off
Game 1: Asheville Tourists 2, Rome Braves 8
Rome beat Ashville in the first game of their double header, 8-2. Rome was able to scatter eight hits and work eight walks in the shortened seven inning game. Every starter reached base, while Edison Sanchez went for the only extra base hit of the game, his ninth double of the season. Lucas Sims got the start, going 5 innings giving up no runs on two hits. He now has a 71:24 strikeout-to-walk in 62.1 innings.
Game 2: Asheville Tourists 2, Rome Braves 3 (F/7)
Rome swept the doubleheader, scoring two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the win. Each team had only four hits. Edison Sanchez had three of those hits remarkably, all singles. Chase Anselment had the other hit, a double, his 13th of the season. Wes Parsons threw six innings giving up two runs on four hits. Shae Simmons notched his 20th save of the season striking out two in his one inning of work. In 34 innings he has a 55:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio with a 2.0 GO/AO. He has yet to give up a home run and has held opponents to a .171 average.
Danville Braves 6, Bristol White Sox 3
Danville also got a win Sunday thanks to 14 hits and some poor defense by Bristol. Connor Lien went 3-5 with a double, scoring two runs to lead the way. Johan Camargo, Mikey Reynolds, Victor Caratini and Jacob Schrader each had two hit performances as well, Schrader with two doubles. Caratini hit his seventh double of the season and is now sporting a 1.008 OPS in 60 PA. Jean Carlos Gil went four innings giving up two earned. Andrew Waszak followed up with an impressive three inning performance, giving up one run striking out four.
