Series Preview: Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies

After dropping two of three to the Marlins of Miami, Atlanta heads up the East Coast to take on the Phillies in a three-game set.

Philadelphia enters the series having split its last ten games, and has an overall record of 41-45 which places them third in the National League East. They are 8.5 games back of the division leading Braves.

Offensively, the Phillies rank seventh in the National League in batting average (.257), eighth in on-base average (.313), sixth in slugging percentage (.404), seventh in wOBA (.311), 9th in wRC+ (95), 12th in walk rate (6.9%), seventh in strikeout rate (19.6%), and seventh in ISO (.146).

Individually, Chase Utley has by far been the team's best player in 2013. Even though he's played in just 57 games, Utley has the highest fWAR among offensive players on the team at 2.6. He's hitting .282/.349/.521 with a .373 wOBA and a 138 wRC+.

A breakout year from Domonic Brown has him second on the the team in position player fWAR as 1.8 to go along with team leading 22 home runs. On the year, he sports a .279/.326/.549 triple slash with a .367 wOBA and 135 wRC+. Kevin Frandsen has been good with the bat in 53 games with a 135 wRC+. Jimmy Rollins is third on the team in fWAR among position players, but has been below average with the bat at .264/.325/.362.

Ben Revere has been the Philles' best baserunner, but has just an 83 wRC+ at the plate. First baseman Ryan Howard has almost all of his damage against right-handed pitchers, as he sports just a 35 wRC+ against left-handers this year. He has 10 homers this season.
