The look said it all.
After maneuvering through a tough second inning, Braves starter Julio Teheran didn't have the same luck in the third. Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips brought in the first runs of the game, but it was Jay Bruce who broke the game open with a two-run shot to right. As soon as it left the bat, Teheran knew it was gone and immediately shouted sweet nothings into his glove. Two innings later, Shin-Soo Choo, who was an absolute terror in this series, added a solo shot to make the game 5-2.
The Braves fought back to make it 5-3 on Dan Uggla's 18th home run, his second consecutive game with a bomb, but it wasn't to be. The game ran away from Anthony Varvaro in the 9th inning after he walked Choo and intentionally walked Votto. Phillips doubled home both runners, and Todd Frazier knocked him in with an RBI single to make it 8-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth with Aroldis Chapman coming in.
Chapman didn't make it out of the ninth unscathed, however, as Andrelton Simmons popped his 8th home run of the season, ending his first half with a solid start to July - .260/.296/.400.
