Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 6/6

Tommy La Stella continues to rake in 2013 - CB Wilkins - Talking Chop

Runs were of no shortage Thursday night in Braves minor league action.

  • Cory Rasmus: IP, H, 0ER, 0BB, K (22IP, 0.82 ERA, 25K/10BB)

Vance Worley gave up eight runs (only two earned) to the Gwinnett offense last night. If that sounds familiar, well, Worley gave up eight runs to the big club on May 22. The offense came from all parts of the lineup last night, which finished with 13 hits and eight walks. Four players finished with multi-hit performances, including Tyler Pastornicky who has posted a .309/.353/.408 slash in 207 PA at Triple-A this season. 25-year-old Omar Poveda didn’t have is best outing of the season, but his 3.24 ERA and .225 avg. against has been impressive in 77.2 IP this season.

Mississippi Braves 8, Chattanooga Lookouts 13

  • Phil Gosselin LF-2B: 1-4, R, BB
  • Tommy La Stella 2B: 2-2, R
  • Luis Nunez 2B-SS: 2-3, R, E (3)
  • Christian Marrero 1B: 0-3, 2BB, E (3)
  • Edward Salcedo 3B: 1-5,
  • Mycal Jones CF: 1-4, 2B (8)
  • Aaron Northcraft: 4.1IP, 9H, 6ER, BB, 4K (55IP, 4.58 ERA, 49K/21BB)
  • Ryne Harper: 2.1IP, 2H, 0ER, BB, 2K (17IP, 2.65 ERA, 17K/5BB)
  • Thomas Keeling: IP, 4H, 4ER, 2BB, 2K (19IP, 4.74 ERA, 23K/12BB)

Thursday night was quite the opposite of Wednesdays 2-1 extra inning thriller. On the mound, Aaron Northcraft got rocked by the Chattanooga offense giving up six runs in 4.1IP. Thomas Keeling made his second appearance for the Braves organization, giving up two home runs and four runs in an inning of work. Tommy La Stella was back in the lineup last night after being pulled early from the game Saturday. He was removed after singling in his first two plate appearances but no reason was given. Between Lynchburg and Mississippi, La Stella has been on fire, putting up a phenomenal .361/.448/.508 triple slash. At 24, he should get a promotion to Gwinnett soon, as he “older” for a prospect in the Southern League.

Lynchburg Hillcats, Frederick Keys - PPD Rain

"Because the two teams do not face each other again in the first half, the game will not be made up." - Lynchburg Hillcats

Rome Braves 7, Asheville Tourists 17

  • Eric Garcia SS: 1-4, 2R, BB
  • Levi Hyams 2B: 2-4, R
  • Josh Elander LF: 1-4, R
  • Trenton Moses 1B: 3-4, 2B (8), BB
  • Carlos Franco 3B: 2-5
  • Tyler Twell C: 1-4, HR (5), R
  • Rafael Briceno: 1.2IP, 8H, 9ER, 2BB, K (55.1IP, 6.83 ERA, 31K/33BB)
  • Bryam Garcia: 3.1IP, 2H, ER, 2BB, 3K (26.1IP, 4.44 ERA 24K/11BB)
  • Zach Jadofsky: 1.2IP, 6H, 7ER, BB, 3K (31.3 IP, 4.88 ERA, 35K/11BB)

Rome's pitching was atrocious Thursday night. Starter Rafael Briceno couldn't make it out of the second inning before giving up NINE earned runs on eight hits and two walks. His season as a whole has been disastrous, posting an ERA just below 7.00, while walking more batters than he has struck out. Zach Jadofsky also imploded for the second time in his past three appearances. On the bright side, the offense was able to put together a seven run performance lead by a 3-4 night from Trenton Moses. The 24-year-old extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Carlos Franco and Levi Hyams also had multi-hit nights for Rome.
